Inveresk Bowling & Social Club

                                                                      Week 17 Report

 1) The penultimate game saw the seniors lose 6-0 away to Polton 2 and are now relegated to Division 3.

 2) The first team went up to play Wallyford hoping to finish higher up in the table but by a matter of 4 shots were unable to overhaul their opponents.

James Kay's rink were in contention in the first half of the match  and at 8-8 the game was open, but then the Wallyford team gradually drew away to win by 14-11.

Ross Marwick's rink started off well lying 3 in the first end, and 2 in the second, only for the opposition skip to come through with his last bowls and turn the 2 ends into a 5-0 to Wallyford. However the next 2 ends went to Ross, with 2x4's he went into a 8-5 lead. he never lost the lead from then on and led 16 -8. However the Wallyford four brought the game back and indeed the third last end they were lying 16-13 down but lying 5 until another brilliant bowl from Ross took the jack through to lie, but with the last bowl the Wallyford skip played another perfectly weighted bowl to lie 2. Another shot in the second last end squared the match at 16-16. The front 2 from Wallyford lay closest to the jack at the final end and looked to have won the game ,but another amazing bowl from Ross took the shot and with the opposing skip sliding agonisingly by the result went 17-16 to Inveresk.

Brendan Boyle's rink were doing well until the second half of the match where Wallyford pulled away to led by 9 shots coming into the closing ends. A brave comeback brought them back to within 3 shots at the last end, at that end Brendan burnt the end it lay against them and tried to get another chance at a 4 shot lie. However the canny opposite skip positioned his rinks bowls well and Brendan only came away with a single shot to go down 17-15.

So 46-42 shots and an overall 6-3 loss.

 3) The second team were at home to Gilmerton 3 and hoped for win to go into the last game with the chance of climbing off the bottom, the visitors put paid to that by winning 6-2.

The "Dream Team" were going for their 6th win in a row but were brought down to earth, crashing to a 12-19 defeat.

Jim Menzies rink  fought valiantly but could not get in front and went down 11-18.

Brian Russell's phone problems from last week did not appear this week and he held his concentration this week to skip his rink to a 13-8 win.

So the second team look to be doomed to bottom spot in the Esk Leagues.
