Inveresk's young pairing of Darren Beveridge & Mark Yuill pulled off  a great victory by winning the Musselburgh & District League Pairs  Trophy last night at Cockenzie Legion. They also created a bit of M&DDL history too, as they are the youngest pair ever to win the trophy, ( Darren is only 17 and Mark is 18 ) and they also followed their fathers, Clark Beveridge & Brian Yuill who also won the pairs together, twice, in 1991/92 and 1999/2000. During the finals they beat Prestonpans Legion A.C. 2-0, Dolphin A 2-0, in the semi-final they defeated the Dolphin B ( which included Darren's father, Clark ) 2-0 and only dropping one leg the whole night which was in their final win against Wallyford B team (Gerald Lavery & Stephen Peters ). In the final, Mark checked out 25 (T3 & D8) in the first leg, after Darren missed the bull, they then hit a 27 dart 701 leg with Darren checking out 25 (17 & D4) after Mark had missed the bull for a 73 check. The two youngsters then, maybe showed a touch of nerves as they passed up several chances to win in the third leg, this let the Wallyford B team in to close the gap to 2-1. In the last leg Darren & Mark stepped up the pressure to come down and close out the contest, hitting double 8 after Darren had missed D16 to win 3-1.

            Inveresk Win League Title

Inveresk won the Musselburgh & District Darts League, when they defeated the League leaders Cockenzie Legion A last night in a hard fought win.

The Inveresk team had won the Fours League the week before but were determined not to lose any points to the team below.

The first four, John Cameron, Darren Beveridge, Mark Yuill & Rab Smith, got away, then power scored, with Mark hitting his third 180 of the season, they narrowly missed out on the least darts, eventually going out in 41 darts.

The second four were not so lucky, Mike Burgess, Alec Turnbull, James Kay & Brendan Boyle, let the other team get away first, they were behind all the way and after a 140 from Brendan which left 20, was to no avail as the opponents checked out double tops for the game. So the score ended 1-1, this meant Inveresk had won the Fours League by 3 points.

In the match, which Inveresk had to win, or they'd end up in third position, they played like the game against the Pans Legion A, with the look of a team wanting to win. John Cameron was unlucky in the first game, when his opponent checking out 108 as John had 55 left. Darren Beveridge, then Mike Burgess won their games to make the score 2-1, Mark Yuill had several darts at the double but couldn't convert and the score was back to 2-2. Brendan Boyle won his game to put Inveresk back in front and James Kay played a captain's role by winning his game. Rab Smith was unlucky in his attempt for a 100 checkout and his opponent checked out to make it 4-3. The last game was a tense affair but Alec Turnbull produced a good 60 check to give Inveresk that crucial 2 point cushion after the singles at 5-3.

John Cameron & Mike Burgess got off to a slow start but warmed up and started to outscore their opponents and John checked out double tops to put us within a point of the League title. The "Young Team" and current pairs champions then took the stage and didn't dissapoint when Darren was left 60, he only needed two darts in checking out and give Inveresk the winning point for the League. Rab Smith & Brendan Boyle won their leg to make it 8-3, however captain James Kay & Alec Turnbull lost their game to make the final score 8-4. This gave us the League title by one point , from Wallyford and left Cockenzie Legion A in third place, a further two points behind.

Next week is the Singles championship at Cockenzie Legion, with 8 Inveresk players involved, hopefully one of them can win. The week after is the Champion of Chamions, where the League winners take on the League Cup winners, which pits us up against Cockenzie Legion A, once more.
